Engage Impact Ecuador
Short-term teams serve Impact Ecuador 2-3 times every year in several important ways. Typically teams are made up of individuals who work alongside nationals on a building project, serve residents of the Quito garbage dump, serve in various orphanages, participate in Carmen Bajo Church's neighbourhood outreach program, and in a children feeding/tutoring program held at the church.
"Impact Ecuador is a wonderful opportunity to join Carmen Bajo Church in the community- and kingdom-building work that they are already doing."
- Dan Murray, Impact Ecuador, Canadian Program Leader
Short-term teams have worked under the supervision of a national contractor on various church construction/renovation projects. Future plans include some construction in support of a couple of income generating projects: a carpentry shop and a plastics injection molding shop.
Teams may expect to serve adult residents of the Quito garbage dump with a feeding program. In addition, teams are also encouraged to serve children (newborns to 5 year-olds) cared for at the garbage dump daycare by playing games and making crafts with them.
Team members may also serve in several orphanages, feeding and playing with very young healthy and/or disabled children.
Carmen Bajo Church invites team members to participate in their neighbourhood outreach programs. The church organizes sport activities for neighbourhood youth. Music, drama and puppetry events are organized in neighbourhood parks. In addition, teams may have an opportunity to participate in Carmen Bajo's prison ministries.
Often team members may be invited to teach, preach and/or share their faith with others.
Typically teams participate in a one day orientation into Ecuadorian culture at the beginning of their stay and in a one day retreat at the end.
