Engage Impact Romania
Short-term teams serve Impact Romania 2-3 times every year in several important ways. Primarily teams serve by building relationships with institutionalized Romanian orphans and with young adult orphans living outside of the orphanages.
"The purpose of this program is to build relationships and to mentor institutionalized orphans and young adult orphans and to train them for family relationships."
- Bob Fukumoto, Impact Romania, Canadian Program Leader
Short-term teams participate with adult orphan volunteers in the work they are already doing. Together these teams serve children living in three orphanages in the vicinity of Cluj: Beclean, Prichindel and Ilisua. Here team members will spend time with the younger children playing games, making crafts, sharing stories and making music. This is a relationship building ministry and so teams take time to enjoy the children and communicate with them through interpreters who travel with the team.
In the evenings, short-term teams and the Romanian orphan leaders participate in "Family Meetings" in which they encourage each other, share their lives, and build relationships.
Some short-term teams may have the opportunity to visit special needs schools, small rural schools, participate in elderly care, or visit a psychiatric hospital.
Summer teams may serve at Camp Discovery, a 6-day mountain retreat for 40-45 younger institutionalized orphans. Team members would participate in games, join talent nights, competitions, Bible stories, crafts, swimming, campfire time, hiking, and sports: volleyball, basketball and soccer.
