Engage Impact Rwanda
Short-term teams serve Impact Rwanda 2-3 times every year in several important ways. Typically teams are made up of individuals who work under the direction of Rwandan leaders with street kids, widows, orphans, HIV+ patients and refugees.
"We work with national leaders to build relationships and meet the needs of the Rwandan people."
- Tillie Lichty, Impact Rwanda, Canadian Program Leader
Working alongside Rwandan leaders, short-term teams may work with street kids (aged 5-25) involved with the Vivante Street Kids Project. Teams may serve food during their daily feeding project, or participate with dramas, crafts, sports or tell Bible stories. Some team members may help teach math or ESL to street kids. Some teams may assist with home renovations for widows who care for street children in this project.
Some teams may have the opportunity to work with the Women in Action project, a ministry to ex-prostitutes and their children. This could involve teaching ESL, supporting a children's program or teaching Sunday School.
Short-term teams may also serve under the leadership of Mama Deborah as she works to ease the burden of HIV+ patients. This could involve home visits, participating in support group meetings, and offering encouragement and friendship to these people. Sometimes short-term team members will work to meet some of the physical needs of members of this group.
Teams may have the opportunity to work with the Youth Leadership Team at the Kiziba Refugee Camp near Kibuye, Rwanda. Here teams will participate in sports and dramas and show films to the refugee camp youth. Some teams help to train the refugee camp leaders.
