Impact Guatemala supports the people of La Pinada and surrounding communities through a partnership with the Senderos de Luz (Path of Light) ministry. Much of the activity of Impact Guatemala centres around the community centres in La Pinada and Las Anonas, which are used for kindergarten classes, leadership training, food security projects and vocational training.
Impact Guatemala offers a variety of social programs to members of the La Pinada community, including family planning, hygiene, life skills, career development, cooking, sewing, kindergarten and others. These sustainable, year-round activities are based at the two Community Centres and are facilitated by Guatemalans.
Half of all Guatemalan children are malnourished. The Impact Guatemala Food Security Project provides healthy food to 50-70 kids and their families. The Community Centre also has space and facilitates activities for the kids, such as singing, practicing English, Bible stories, and sports.
To meet one of the most pressing needs in the community, program leader Hilmar has started a Food Hamper Program for those in financial trouble. As funds allow, food hampers are given out each month to families that have been identified with the greatest need, during his weekly home visits in the community.
Community members are encouraged to learn new skills and start businesses at the Vocational Training Centre. Classes are offered in woodworking, sewing, art and more. These classes provide much needed jobs and careers for community members.
